It may not necessarily be doing so consciously, but you don't have to be a Freudian to see the importance of the subconscious as well as plain cause and effect. When the Christian understanding of the social and economic order is replaced one driven by hedonism, consumption and techno-utopian will-to-power, is it really that surprising that our civilisation has replaced the cross with a delirious farrago of Miley Cyrus, Walmart and crystal meth? Similarly, if we consider this moral cyanide to be the elixir of life, it is it really so surprising that we intend to force it down the throat of the rest of humanity, using the anesthetic of high explosive if needs be?
